Engineering Education Research Center

Outreach and Retention

The need to attract more students to engineering, retain them, and best prepare them for a global marketplace has precipitated increased interest in addressing educational issues in engineering in recent years.

Many educators, especially in the pivotal primary and secondary education grades, are unfamiliar with engineering, and therefore, are tentative about discussing engineering in their classrooms. At the same time, many engineering faculty are not familiar with educational materials and methods that support the success and attraction of a diverse cross-section of students in engineering.

The Center in cooperation with college departments is facilitating research collaboration to address major challenges faced by university and K-12 educators, while also building a community of educators working together on these issues.
