Capstone Assessments Grant from NSF
Most engineering programs in the U.S. have capstone design courses for seniors, in which students solve real-world problems and develop real products Denny Davis, professor in the School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering, is working with Michael Trevisan, WSU assessment and evaluation professor, Steven Beyerlein, UI mechanical engineering professor, and researchers from Seattle University and Alabama’s Tuskegee University working to improve assessment of student capability in these courses. They havereceived a two-year, $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to test a variety of assessment tools for the capstone senior engineering design course.

WSU Researchers Seek to Spark Interest in Engineering
Washington State University researcher Denny Davis and colleagues have been awarded a three-year, $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation that seeks to improve student interest in math in secondary grades and better understand the factors affecting student interest in engineering and science careers.
