Overview
Summer at WSU Engineering Experience for Teachers (SWEET) is an introduction for middle and high school teachers to the field of engineering. WSU with funding from the National Science Foundation offers a six-week, hands-on engineering program to familiarize teachers with engineering processes, which they in turn can carry into their classrooms.
Minimally, eight in-service and four pre-service teacher candidates will be selected each year. Candidates will receive Continuing Education Credit, as well as a stipend ($4,000 in-service or $2,000 pre-service), a living allowance ($2,000 in-service and $1,000 pre-service) and travel expenses.
Activities include: working on a project that interests you and solving a real engineering problem with a faculty member; and developing and pilot testing a teaching module with a science education faculty member to integrate into your classroom.
Benefits include: Learning about the profession of engineering; forming lasting relationships with others interested in science/engineering education; and strengthening math and science abilities, especially as they apply to solving real problems.
